pacifier no more?
we've been trying to figure out how to wean Rachel off the pacifier. she's so attached to the pacifier. she needs it every night after her milk before she goes to bed. the pacifier helps her sleep. a few months after she turned 1 year old, we tried NOT giving her the pacifier after her milk, and she cried and cried and cried, demanding the pacifier. so in the end we had to give it to her, then only she went straight to sleep. recently, someone shared with us that they actually 'pyscho-ed" their kid by telling the boy that he's a big boy now and big boys dont need pacifier. they kept repeating this to the boy, and then one fine day, they just stopped giving him the pacifier. and suprisingly, he didnt throw any tantrums to demand for the pacifier! and since then, he was off the pacifier!
so we thought we'd give it a try on Rachel. so for the past few days, everytime she asks for her pacifier, we've been gently hinting to her that she's a big girl now and big girls dont need pacifiers before giving her the pacifier. then tonight, we decided to give it a try...after her milk, we didnt give her the pacifier. and to our surprise, she didnt cry. she did ask for it but we gently told her she doesnt need it. well, she didnt go to bed immediately, instead she started climbing all over the place, roll from our bed onto her mattress, talking to herself, playing with her bolsters, etc..... after about 30 minutes of drama, she finally fell asleep WITHOUT the pacifier! yippeee!! so happy.... well, i'm not getting my hopes to high just yet........will try again tmr, let's see what happens tmr... :)

We got VN off her pacifier by telling her that it would spoil her teeth and she won't look pretty when grown up. Knowing how vain she was, it worked.
how old was VN that time?
I think rachel is still too young to understand what it means to look pretty! hehehe....
She was about 1.5 year old...
