22 months

Rachel is 22 months old today.
Lately she’s been pretty cranky. Not sure why....and she’s also extra sticky to me. For example, this morning, she refused to let me go shower and get dressed for work. The moment she woke up, she looked for me. Played with her until it was time for me to go get ready for work. She immediately clung to my legs and hugged me. I tried to reason with her but she refused to listen. In the end had to use Barney stickers to distract her! Sigh. Not only will she cling to me but she’ll also make a lot of noise… crying but not really crying…

She also recently developed this latest habit of sucking on her bottle teat after she finishes her milk. So she’s like literally sucking air into her tummy! Each time we try to pull the bottle away from her, she will grip it even tighter. And if we force it away from her, she’ll cry and scream! sigh. Don’t know why she developed this habit… perhaps she’s missing the sucking comfort or perhaps she’s teething again? Anyway I really pray and hope that she’ll kick off this habit soon. Don’t want her to have unnecessary air in her tummy.

2 nights ago, we gently pulled the bottle away from her as we noticed that she had fallen asleep after sucking. But to our horror, she realized that she no longer had the bottle and started crying and screaming. After that she wanted me to carry her and refused to be pacified. Kept on crying and crying… and refused to let me sit down…have to carry her and walk all over the room. After awhile we brought her outside (desperate to find ways to distract her and make her stop crying). Then we noticed that she started sticking her fingers into her mouth as though her gums were itchy. So maybe she’s really teething again. Finally after she calmed down, brought her to the room again. By this time she was fully awake already. So had to entertain her until she finally fell asleep by herself! Wah…that night really chuan man. Talk about crankiness!

Anyways, enough abt crankiness. Of course, when she’s not cranky she’s really cute and getting cuter by the day. Hehe… one morning, she woke up in a very good mood and she said “kiss”…wanting to kiss me and to be kissed by me! She picks up new words very fast, too fast for me to keep track of every single new word that she learns! and we’re also trying to teach her to speak in short sentences. Among the most recent words : cry, butterfly (although it sounds like buf-fly), what’s this?, pain pain, go work, house, at home, where’s papa/mama/ee/etc…, go inside, that side, kiss, hug, qi-toe (means mosquito), trolley.

We’ve also trained her to pick up her own dirty clothes and place them in the laundry pail. :) and currently we’re also trying to toilet-train her…but this one still need lots of effort and patience. Sometimes she will tell us when she wants to pee but most of the time she’ll only tell AFTER she pees. We’ve tried not letting her wear diapers/lampin a few times but each time also “accident” happened. Guess need lots of patience and perseverance. At least, when she wants to poo-poo, she knows how to tell. so most of the time, she’ll poo into the potty. so now just got to wait for her to be fully toilet/potty trained then can save on diapers! Hahaha…
